How to utilise available technology to stay ahead of the competition
These days there are many ways to search and apply for jobs, but here we've listed some useful tips to harness the powers of technology to find a job online more easily.
The obvious choice – but are you making the most of all their features? Job board websites usually allow you to set up saved searches and job alerts, so whenever new and relevant vacancies are posted you get an email alert, rather than having to trawl through the site every day hoping to find something new. Also make sure you've uploaded your CV (including your full address) so our recruiters can find you and get in touch as soon as they have relevant opportunities that may not be online straight away.
Finding a job with LinkedIn
If you want to be found by a recruiter, make sure you have a detailed and up to date profile, and post regular updates about industry news and your achievements. Join any relevant groups, contribute to discussions and connect with potential employers and recruiters to start building a useful network.
Searching News sites
Staying in touch with what's going on in your industry is a great way to spot new opportunities, and have good material for any interviews you go to. You can find out what organisations are growing and doing well, and who might be good prospects to approach.
Research what your target employers are saying about themselves (or what others are saying about them) on their social media channels, and see if you can find or connect with anyone else working there. Also be sure to update your privacy settings on your own pages.
Setting up Skype
More and more employers are becoming open to using media such as Skype for interviews, so make sure you have an account with a decent picture, and if you're not familiar with it, have a couple of conversations with people so you can get comfortable with seeing your face on screen.
